Using your assigned readings and websites and your own research together with available data, make a simple graph of the total number of recorded terrorist border crossings from September 11, 2001, to the present.

Introduction

The U.S. border is one of the most difficult obstacles to cross in the world, but it is also an important part of our economy and culture. The United States has a long history with immigration, which began with the first European settlers arriving on American shores in 1607 and continues today as millions of immigrants come to the U.S. each year seeking better opportunities for themselves and their families. Despite this history, however, security along our borders has been uneven at best during this time period—and some areas have even become more porous over time due to changes in technology or policies governing how people enter into America from other countries.”

Border challenges

The border is a challenge. It’s a difficult place to be and it’s dangerous, especially for those who are not familiar with its terrain. The border is also a place of risk and danger for those who work there or live in communities near the border.

The U.S.- Mexico border has become increasingly militarized over recent decades as part of an effort by both countries’ governments to keep out undocumented immigrants seeking entry into the United States through illicit means (e.g., drug trafficking). This militarization has increased security along parts of our shared land-border but has also created new challenges for law enforcement agencies tasked with patrolling this area while maintaining civil rights protections under U.S., Mexican, or international law—or any combination thereof!

Border surveillance and security against ground infiltration

The U.S. Border Patrol is the largest law enforcement agency in the world, with more than 21,000 agents and responsibilities for securing the borders of the United States. The Border Patrol has responsibility for monitoring security at all land borders, including ports of entry; training local law enforcement agencies; investigating acts of terrorism; preventing illegal drug trafficking and money laundering; confiscating weapons from criminals and terrorists; protecting critical infrastructure such as airports and power stations from insurgents using vehicles or suicide bombers (known as “IEDs”).

Anti-immigration measures

• The wall: The Trump administration has made it clear that a physical barrier will be built along the borders with Mexico and Canada, with estimates ranging from $15 billion to $25 billion. The wall will run along the length of 1,000 miles (1,610 km) of border between the U.S. and Mexico, but only a small fraction is currently under construction (about 2%).
• Fences: While not as effective at deterring illegal crossings as walls are, fences do help prevent people from illegally crossing into America by cutting off access points closer to the border where many unauthorized migrants arrive first before heading farther north or south into Texas or Arizona respectively – states with large numbers of unauthorized immigrants residing within their borders today because they have little choice but accept them since there aren’t any legal means available for them otherwise.”

The United States has been struggling with border security for decades. But the current political climate may be more difficult than ever before to achieve meaningful reforms. The Trump administration’s efforts to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border have generated significant controversy and opposition from some of its critics, who believe that such a barrier would be ineffective in deterring illegal immigration or drug trafficking into America. In addition, recent events including Trump’s executive order concerning refugees and immigrants from seven majority-Muslim countries have reinvigorated anti-immigrant activism at home and abroad as well as fueled fears about terrorism among Americans because some immigrants might be affiliated with terrorist organizations like ISIS (see How does government decide who is allowed into the country?).
