Write a 2-3 page essay answering this philosophical question, “What is reality?

Introduction

The question of what is reality has been debated for centuries. Some philosophers believe that all of our experiences are real, while others believe that only our thoughts are real. What do you think?:

What is reality?

Reality is a subjective phenomenon.

  • Reality is what you think it is, and you can change your mind about it.
  • Reality is the way things seem to you, not necessarily what they are in reality or how they are arranged in space and time.
  • Reality may be different for each person; it depends on their history with that particular thing or concept, as well as their current mood and beliefs. For example: A person who has been taught that Santa Claus exists will likely believe in him until proven otherwise (i.e., “My friend told me she saw him”). A person who has been told he cannot fly will experience flight differently than someone who’s never heard this message before–he might experience flying differently because he feels more confident using his wings than she does!

What is the difference between what is real and what is imaginary?

The difference between what is real and what is imaginary is that reality has an objective side, while imagination has a subjective side. Reality includes everything that can be measured or observed with our five senses. Imagination includes only those things we construct in our minds, such as thoughts and feelings.

Examples of realities include the objects we see around us–our cars, houses, furniture–and the people we meet on our daily commutes to work (you’re going to answer this question later on). In contrast with these examples of “real” objects are other examples of “imaginary” ones: my childhood imaginary friend named Boo who lived inside my closet; your favorite rock band named The Fray whose songs you listen to over and over again when bored during long car rides home from work; even your own self-image as someone who lives far away from everyone else in the world but dreams about being close by forevermore no matter how hard it gets sometimes…

How do we know what is real?

According to the philosopher David Hume, reality is a subjective phenomenon. He believed that there is no objective reality and that everything we experience is based on our own perception of things.

This means that if you were to ask someone else whether or not they think the sun rises in the east or west, they could tell you both ways because their brains are wired differently; so too would their answer be different depending on whom they asked! This also means that what we see as “real” depends entirely on who we ask; there’s no way for us all to agree on what’s real or not (if there were then why don’t we all agree?).

The other problem with trying to pin down an objective definition for “reality” is that it doesn’t exist in any one particular place–it doesn’t have an exact location like a building does; instead reality exists everywhere at once! For example: When you look at something like this picture above (which was taken by my friend Luke), your brain makes sense out of millions upon millions of photons bouncing around inside your skull until eventually ending up here where I’m writing this sentence right now…

What are some examples of things that may seem real, but are not?

  • A dream is a type of hallucination.
  • A memory is a mental image or impression of something that happened in the past, but isn’t real. It can also be an experience that you have forgotten, like when you dozed off while driving and had a nightmare about being chased by people who wanted to kill you (which actually happened).
  • Hallucinations are generally short-lived, but they can be extremely vivid and realistic (like seeing someone else standing next to you). They’re typically caused by stress or drugs.
  • Delusions are false beliefs that people hold despite evidence to the contrary–for example: believing their partner is cheating on them when there’s no actual proof; believing their house has been burgled even though there hasn’t been any break-in reported by police; believing someone else has stolen their car when it’s parked outside for everyone else who works at the same company as them knows exactly where it should be parked!

Reality is a subjective phenomenon.

Reality is a subjective phenomenon.

You may think of reality as the way things actually are, but it’s more accurate to say that reality is the way we perceive them to be. Reality is how we experience and understand our world, ourselves and other people in it. It affects who you are as an individual and what you do with your life; it determines whether or not something can happen or not happen; if something does happen then its meaning becomes clear too!

Conclusion

Reality is a subjective phenomenon. We all perceive the world using our own personal filters and interpretations, which we have built up over our lives. As such, there are many different ways of approaching reality: some might see things as more real than others; some might think that everything is real but not necessarily “true”; some people will believe with absolute certainty in something while others are more sceptical about it. Ultimately though it’s up to you whether or not these questions matter at all or not!
