Introduction

I am excited to be joining the NYC Civic Corps. This position will allow me to use my skills as an educator and outreach worker in an effort that helps our city’s most vulnerable residents get what they need most–a better life for themselves and their families!

Public service is a passion of mine. I have been a volunteer for my community since I was in high school, providing tutoring services to elementary school students, as well as leading a group of volunteers to help house and feed the homeless.

Public service has helped me develop skills that will be useful in future jobs and has taught me about myself as well as how others see me. Public servants can provide an important role model for youth who want to give back but may not know how best to do so yet; this can be especially helpful for young people who may face challenges when trying to find their place in society or when transitioning from childhood into adulthood.

My interest in public service began at an early age when my mother was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 44. I began volunteering with a cancer support organization during her treatment and continued to volunteer after her passing until I left for college.

The most impactful experience I had volunteering was attending a cancer support group where I learned how to help others who were going through the same things as my mother. Through this experience, I realized that there are many people who need help and that helping others is an important part of life.

I also learned about the importance of community service during high school when I volunteered with Habitat for Humanity and Food Pantries during my summers off from college. This led me down a path where I wanted to give back after seeing other people in need around me or simply because it felt good to do something good for someone else!

I have always been interested in improving communities through civic engagement, seeking organizations that make positive change while encouraging other people to take action in their own communities through civic engagement efforts.
