Instructions:
After reviewing the “Autonomous Vehicles: Technological Changes and Ethical Challenges” case (available for purchase through HBP), prepare a 6-10 page, double-spaced response in APA format that addresses the following: BACKGROUND
Complete a systems analysis to better understand the issues:
· Tell the story
· Diagram trends
· Identify variables
· Establish boundary
· Prepare a connection circle, a causal loop diagram, and a stock-flow diagram· Identify and describe leverage points
ANALYSIS
1. Identify, discuss, and rank major stakeholders, as well as their competing interests from a long-term point of view.
2. From a stakeholder equity perspective, identify two major ethical issues that players in the autonomous vehicle industry need to consider in their plans for economic growth.
3. Drawing from ethical theoretical concepts and secondary data evidence, offer 1 possible solution for each ethical issue identified in question 2.
4. Analyze the trade-offs that exist for GM/Cadillac between economic, social, and environmental implications of commercializing an autonomous vehicle at the level of automation discussed in the case. To the extent that the case is not explicit about some of these trade-offs (e.g., environmental) develop them using desk-research and add tables with data you generated (as you see fit).
5. Provide a recommendation to GM/Cadillac for a long-term strategy (i.e., 25 years in the future) in the autonomous vehicle industry that balances the trade-offs you identified in section 4. Assume that in this time-frame, technological changes will lead to the commercialization of fully autonomous vehicles (SAE level 5). In your response, briefly develop 3 specific scenarios that would impact the future success of your proposed strategy and briefly explain how prepared GM/Cadillac would be in each scenario (possible future world of fully-autonomous vehicle development).
Consider varying the 3 scenarios in terms of laws/regulations/standards, demand factors, societal acceptance, energy/environment, competition/industry structure, business models and general economic/trade forces. Note: at least one paragraph should address each section/question listed above.
Tips· Go straight to the issues. Do not repeat what is in the case; assume the reader knows already.
· The expectation is that you incorporate what you’ve learned throughout your MBA curriculum.
· Make your writing compact and analytical not descriptive.
· Try to use relevant information from other classes.
· Make sure to properly label/annotate data tables you create so that readers can easily navigate them
· Make sure you justify your recommendations strongly in terms of solving the major issue, buy-in of stakeholders and impact etc. Try to be realistic about what can be changed/achieved.
· Choose the ethical approach that will go to the root cause of the problems (here’s where your systems thinking analysis is relevant) and be more persuasive in motivating stakeholders, clarifying roles/conflicts and have a major impact. · You should know what your recommendations are going to be since these are the issues you will develop a critique about and set the stage for recommendations.
