Select a stress disorder, anxiety disorder, conduct disorder, or ADHD. Be sure to choose a specific disorder and not a category of disorders.

Prepare a 1,050- to 1,500-word paper that discusses research-based interventions to treat the selected disorder.

Review and differentiate the characteristics of the selected disorder and discuss the research about intervention strategies for the disorder by completing the following:

Present the DSM-5 criteria used to diagnose the disorder.

Compare and contrast the chosen disorder with another disorder in the same general category. For example you could compare social anxiety disorder to agoraphobia, ADHD to Impulse Control Disorder, Conduct disorder to Oppositional Defiant Disorder, etc.

Evaluate and present three peer-reviewed research studies using the Research Analysis. Not all elements of the Research Analysis will be relevant for each study. Discussing statistical methods is not as important as discussing purpose, subjects studied and the findings.

Discuss the treatments or interventions that have been shown to be the most effective for your selected disorder (Evidence based practices).

Cite at least five peer-reviewed sources.

Format your paper consistent with APA guidelines

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

There are many different types of mental illnesses, and each can have a variety of symptoms. One type, called a “disorder,” is characterized by the presence of certain symptoms that interfere with everyday life. When you have a disorder, it means that your thoughts or behaviors are out of line with what’s expected in society or within your family. In some cases, people might think these problems are caused by something other than mental illness (like stress) but actually have a physical cause instead—but this isn’t always true!

Stress Disorder

Stress disorders are a group of mental health disorders that cause significant distress and can impair functioning. They include the following:

• Generalized anxiety disorder (GAD)
• Panic disorder
• Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD)
• Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Social anxiety disorder is another name for social phobia, which is characterized by fear or avoidance of common social situations and performances in front of other people. Phobias are irrational fears that interfere with daily activities like going out on a date or eating out at a restaurant.

Anxiety Disorder

Anxiety disorders are characterized by excessive worry or nervousness that causes significant distress and impairment. This can be triggered by a specific situation, such as a medical procedure or test, but it can also occur in response to everyday stressors like worrying about your finances. Anxiety disorders typically last longer than the duration of an episode of depression and require treatment with medication and/or counseling. Anxiety disorders affect up to 15 percent of adults at some point in their lives; they are one of the most common mental health conditions overall (1).

Conduct Disorder

Conduct disorder is a behavior problem that is not part of another mental health condition. It’s the most serious type of child or adolescent conduct problem and includes behaviors such as aggression, deceitfulness, defiance or irresponsibility.

Conduct disorder is not the same as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

ADHD

ADHD is a mental health condition that affects the way a person behaves, thinks and feels.

It can also be known as attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

ADHD is a brain disorder that can affect children and adults.

For instance, if your symptoms include irritability and difficulty concentrating then it is likely that you have an anxiety disorder rather than a mood disorder or schizophrenia (schizotypal personality).
