Group B will complete the initial post. Group A will respond. Baby Leah had a very traumatic vaginal birth. After a vacuum extraction for fetal heart rate tracing changes and a resultant shoulder dystocia, Leah has a mild Erb’s palsy, some facial and truncal bruising. Pediatrician has ordered physical therapy for the palsy and the doctor expects routine care to be provided to her. In addition, do not forget the education you must give to the new parents regarding this injury. Due to the bruising there is an increase in bilirubin levels and some behavioral changes occur with Leah. Please describe what is different and what will you discuss with the family to ensure safety? The bilirubin level requires phototherapy. What precautions must you take? What is essential to manage and treat the elevated bilirubin in addition to phototherapy?Group A Response Phototherapy is discontinued at the hospital, but at home the parents are encouraged to provide some ‘routine’ therapy for Hyperbilirubinemia. What would you suggest? Do not forget routine discharge instruction for this parent. Please Include answer all questions with 3-4 references

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.

Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.

Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.

The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.

KEY TAKEAWAYS BEFORE ATTEMPTING THIS ASSIGNMENT

Maternal-Child Nursing is an important aspect of healthcare that has a direct impact on both mother and child health. In this essay, I will discuss three distinct topics related to Maternal-Child Nursing: The Impact of Breastfeeding on Infant Health, The Benefits of Early Postpartum Monitoring, and The Role of Maternal-Child Nursing in Preventive Care. Through a discussion of each of these important topics, I will demonstrate the importance of Maternal-Child Nursing in providing quality healthcare.

Breastfeeding has a profound effect on infant health, as evidenced in the study conducted by S Ip, M Chung, G Raman, P Chew, and others (2007). The study found that exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life was associated with a decreased risk of gastrointestinal infections, lower rates of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS), and a lower risk of developing certain chronic illnesses in childhood. Furthermore, the study found that the health benefits of breastfeeding were significantly higher in low- and middle-income countries than in high-income countries, indicating that the positive effects of breastfeeding on infant health are most significant in developing nations. The study also found that breastfeeding had a positive effect on cognitive development, with breastfed infants exhibiting higher scores on cognitive tests than their formula-fed peers. These findings demonstrate the profound impact that breastfeeding can have on a child’s health, development, and wellbeing.

Early postpartum monitoring is an essential part of providing quality healthcare for new mothers and their babies. This monitoring involves close tracking of maternal and newborn health, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, and other vital signs (Kanotra et al., 2007). It is an important tool to detect any physical or mental health issues that may arise within the early postpartum period. Studies have shown that early postpartum monitoring can reduce serious complications and improve overall health outcomes for both mother and baby (Kanotra et al., 2007). The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists now recommend that women be monitored at least twice in the postpartum period, with additional monitoring as needed (Kanotra et al., 2007). Early postpartum monitoring has also been shown to be beneficial in detecting risk factors for postpartum depression (Kanotra et al., 2007). Monitoring can help identify mothers who need additional psychological and social support, providing them with the resources they need to cope with the challenges of motherhood. In this way, early postpartum monitoring can be a powerful tool to ensure the health and well-being of new mothers and their babies.

Maternal-child nursing is a fundamental part of preventive care for both mothers and their children. SE Perry et al. (2022) affirm that it is the primary responsibility of maternal-child nurses to provide both education and support for women and their families throughout the childbearing process. The nurse provides education about the physical and emotional changes that occur during pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, as well as the importance of adopting healthy lifestyle behaviors and appropriate healthcare practices. Furthermore, they provide counseling and support to mothers and families in order to manage any potential risks or challenges that may arise during the childbearing process. In addition, the nurse plays a key role in the promotion of breastfeeding and infant nutrition, helping to ensure that mothers are knowledgeable and confident in their feeding decisions. Finally, the nurse is responsible for providing education on parenting, child development, and safety, helping to ensure that parents are aware of the best practices for their children. In sum, the role of maternal-child nurses in preventive care is paramount, as they are in a unique position to provide education and support to mothers and families throughout the childbearing process.

Maternal child nursing is an important specialty in healthcare that contributes greatly to the safekeeping and well-being of mothers, infants and children. It encompasses knowledge, experience and techniques necessary to provide compassionate, competent nursing care to women and infants throughout the life cycle. The nursing care provided to mothers and babies needs to be specialized and individualized based on their own unique needs and health conditions. Maternal child nurses help to provide support and guidance to each mother, allowing her to make informed decisions regarding her health and well-being. In addition, these nurses actively collaborate with other healthcare providers such as physicians, social workers, dietitians and specialists, to help meet the needs of the family holistically. Thus, through the diverse and specialized knowledge of these nurses, mothers and infants can benefit greatly from safe, comprehensive and effective care.
