For this journal assignment, reflect on the substance and theoretical foundation of what you have learned this week about psychosexual, moral, emotional, and personality development. Then write a reflective essay that addresses the following:
1) Comment on how this week’s learning and materials compliment, oppose, and/or affect change in your positions and attitudes on the relevant subject matter.
2) From this reflection, formulate and articulate three pieces of advice you would offer to a young client or acquaintance who is having difficulties facing these challenging stages and transitions.
3) How will the recommendations you offered help to ensure successful development along these lines?
This week’s learning and materials were related to psychosexual, moral and emotional development. We are focusing on how these areas of mental development are related to each other.
Psychosexual development is a term that refers to the stages of a person’s sexual maturity. The three phases are oral, anal and phallic.
The first phase is called the oral stage, which occurs during infancy and childhood. During this time, children learn about their bodies through exploring their world with their mouths (oral). They also develop a sense of themselves as separate from others by exploring their own body parts (oral). For example: When you were young, you might have sucked your finger while playing finger-painting with your mom or dad at home on a Saturday afternoon; now think back to when that happened! You may even remember what kind of food was served for dinner that day—did you like it? Did someone else make it? How did Mommy feel when she cooked up such tasty treats for us? She probably felt proud knowing how much effort went into preparing these yummy-looking meals every night after school/work hours too!
Moral development is how children learn to tell the difference between right and wrong. As they grow up, they observe their parents, friends and teachers making moral judgments that guide their behavior.
The first step in moral development happens as soon as we are born: we instinctively know what is good or bad for us based on our environment and history (i.e., if something hurts me then I don’t want it). This ability exists even though at this point our brains do not have any explicit knowledge about morality; however, since all humans have an innate desire for pleasure over pain (as well as a need for food), this desire will drive them down many paths until it finds one way which satisfies both needs without causing pain or discomfort—this is called “predictive control” by psychologists because your brain predicts what will happen next based on past experiences with similar situations where things worked out fine for everyone involved so there’s nothing left but optimism/optimism bias
Emotional development is the ability to feel different emotions. It’s natural for children to be angry, sad or scared at times. Emotions are a way for people to communicate their feelings and feelings are how we express ourselves.
Emotions can be positive or negative, controlled and expressed through facial expressions, body language and tone of voice.
Personality development is related to the children’s personality traits, such as shy or outgoing. Personality is not just about how you look or act on the outside; it includes your inner world as well.
Personality development begins at birth, but continues throughout life. The way people think and feel depends on genetics and environment—both genetic makeup and upbringing can affect personality development in various ways. For example, a child’s temperament may be influenced by family members’ personalities (e.g., if one parent is calm while another tends to panic). Your peers also influence your sense of self-worth because they are part of your social group where you spend time together every day
These areas of mental development are related to each other.
Moral development is about learning what is right and wrong. Psychosexual development is how children learn to feel, think and relate to others. Emotional development includes how children learn to feel different emotions as well as their personality traits. Personality development is related to the child’s personality traits such as shy or outgoingness.
