The United States has many laws that protect against discrimination. These laws were passed in response to the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and include:

Civil Rights Act of 1964

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was passed by the U.S. Congress and signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson on July 2, 1964. It was intended to address discrimination against African Americans in public places, including restaurants and theaters. The law also prohibited racial segregation in schools, government agencies and transportation systems; it also made it illegal for employers to discriminate based on race or sex (which included women). By today’s standards, this legislation is considered outdated because it does not include language about LGBT rights or gender identity discrimination; however because it did not have these kinds of protections at the time they were first proposed during discussions about proper enforcement mechanisms under Title VII of this document which deals with employment discrimination issues brought forth by federal employees working within state departments throughout America.”

The ADA states that no qualified individual with a disability shall be excluded from participation in or be denied the benefits of such programs because of his or her disability; nor shall any individual be subjected to discrimination on the basis of disability by any private entity receiving Federal financial assistance.

The provisions of this title may not be construed to invalidate or nullify state and local statutes which derived their authority directly from religious beliefs or moral principles may exist at common law and where they are not inconsistent with Federal statutory provisions applicable in relation to such matters as education finance..

It also prohibits discrimination on the basis of age under some circumstances; however this statute does not apply to private employers who are covered by Title VII of the Civil Rights Act (see below).
  • The Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) bars employers from discriminating against qualified individuals with disabilities in any part of their employment practices including recruitment and hiring decisions; job assignments; promotions; layoffs; compensation decisions related to retirement benefits or insurance coverage such as health care benefits or life insurance premiums paid for employees’ spouses/dependents who have been granted employment authorization under Section 3(b)(1) because they are citizens or nationals residing abroad for more than 180 days per year past three years ending June 30th each year during calendar year 2021-2022 which will expire after 30 days following expiration date instead being renewed annually so long as there is no change between 11/11/2018 through 12/12/2019 due date when expired again unless extended beyond December 31st 2020 due date
