Introduction

Trifles, “The Story of an Hour,” and “A Rose for Emily” are all three part compare and contrast essays about the theme of love. Both stories involve children who have something happen to them which affects how they feel about themselves and others around them. In the first story, a mother and son go on a picnic in the countryside where it starts raining. The child is afraid of getting wet but instead enjoys playing with raindrops on his face until he realizes that his mother has noticed him looking at himself in a way he never wanted her to see before!

Trifles, “The Story of an Hour” and “A Rose for Emily” are both stories of a single hour in the life of a character.

Trifles, “The Story of an Hour” and “A Rose for Emily” are both stories of a single hour in the life of a character. Both tell how one event can change someone forever, how love or friendship can be lost, and that even after everything has been said and done there will always be more questions than answers. The setting is also similar; both take place in Georgia where we get to see some beautiful scenery along with some small town life.

In Trifles by Susan Glaspell (1876-1948), Mrs. Farrell takes her two sons home after her husband’s death so she doesn’t have to go into town alone while they bury him. While driving back home she sees their neighbor Miss Cornelia coming out onto his porch when suddenly he falls off of it! This shocks Mrs Farrell but she doesn’t expect what happens next…

In “The Story of an Hour,” a mother and son go on a picnic in the country. The mother is a widow who has lost her husband, while her son named George is still grieving for his father. As they begin to walk, they talk about their lives before going into silence again when they reach their destination. When they arrive at their destination, there is no food for them to eat; however, because it’s so early in the day, there are already people there who have brought food with them. The mother suggests that instead of eating any of this food that was provided by someone else (and therefore not theirs), she should try making some lemonade out of lemons from home instead; however, her son disagrees because he wants something more substantial such as sandwiches or pastries from one of those vendors nearby whom had set up shop earlier than expected due to high demand among locals who weren’t able get enough supplies before opening time began.”

In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily and Miss Maybelle have a quarrel over why their friend is not invited to take part in their activities.

In “A Rose for Emily,” Miss Emily and Miss Maybelle have a quarrel over why their friend is not invited to take part in their activities.

Miss Emily feels left out, hurt and childish because she did not get an invitation to go on the picnic with her friends. She thinks that Miss Maybelle should have invited her instead of just leaving it up to Miss Maybelle to decide who could come, but then again she also realizes that this might have been hard for Miss Maybelle because of how much time it would take away from preparing for the picnic itself. After all these thoughts are settled in her mind, she decides that maybe there was no reason why she should expect anything more than an apology from anyone involved with this misunderstanding between them; so instead of continuing with it anymore than necessary (which would have been pointless anyways), she decides just leave things as they are now which includes letting go of any bitterness towards anyone else involved either way – even though some people may still hold grudges against each other after all these years later even though they were never aware of what happened until now when someone brought it up again years later!

The theme of both stories is “love” or “friendship.” These themes are also reflected in literary devices such as setting, plot and character.

The theme of both stories is “love” or “friendship.” These themes are also reflected in literary devices such as setting, plot and character.

The setting of Trifles takes place in an old mansion with high ceilings. This gives it a very cool feeling; you can imagine yourself being surrounded by all kinds of beautiful things like paintings and furniture. The story is told from the point of view of two twelve-year-old girls who have been friends since they were little children but do not know each other well enough to understand what their relationship means for them individually or collectively.

In A Rose For Emily by William Faulkner (who wrote Trifles) there are many different characters who play important roles throughout this story: Emily Grierson herself who becomes ill after living alone for many years; Miss Rosa Coldfield who lived next door but moved away because she couldn’t stand having her daughter married off at such a young age; Benbow Plantation owner John Henry Sutpen III who wants everyone around him happy so he keeps buying things like cars even though they cost more than usual prices due to inflation rates during that time period which caused prices increase quickly due partly because people weren’t spending money on anything else except cars which made them feel rich but also made them worried about losing everything again!

Setting – In “The Story of an Hour” the setting is outside with nice weather, although it can be rainy if that is how you want it to be. In “A Rose for Emily” the setting is inside the library where there are many windows and sunlight coming through them. Because of this it makes the place bright and warm.

Setting is the time and place where your story takes place. It can be a physical location, such as a house or town, or it could be an emotional environment like a home for example.

Setting can also help to create atmosphere or mood. If you set your story in the middle of summer then it will feel warm and sunny with little chance of rain because it’s too hot for there to be any clouds overhead blocking out any sunlight coming through windows at night time when they are closed shutters would not work then if they were open they’d let more light in but only while people were sleeping so this would make things darker than if there weren’t these types of complications happening around them which would mean that they wouldn’t need lights on at night either!

Plot – Both plots involve children getting lost or having something happen to them which affects how they feel about themselves and others around them. However there is more action in “The Story of an Hour” than there is in “A Rose for Emily.”

Both plots involve children getting lost or having something happen to them which affects how they feel about themselves and others around them. However there is more action in “The Story of an Hour” than there is in “A Rose for Emily.” The plot of “The Story of an Hour” focuses on the reactions of a woman after her husband dies on a train journey. She goes through stages of grief before realizing that she has to go on with life, despite feeling like nothing will ever be the same again. In contrast, “A Rose For Emily” focuses more on grief over death and how it affects those closest to someone who has died; this includes both family members as well as friends who knew Emily Dickinson (the main character).

Conclusion

This is an example of a compare and contrast essay. It is meant to show how two different stories have similarities, but also differences in their content, tone, setting and plot.
