Kinesiology Concept Map Term (part 3 of 5)

Introduction

Kinesiology is the science of human movement and body mechanics. It involves studying how energy flows through the body, how muscles function in relation to one another and with bone structure, and how our bodies move through space.

THE HUMAN BODY

The human body is made up of many systems, including:

• Cells – These are the basic building blocks of your body. They come in all different shapes and sizes; some have a nucleus (the cell’s command center), while others don’t.
• Organs – These are specialized organs that do specific jobs in the body, like digesting food or breathing air into our lungs. We have several different kinds of organs: heart, liver, kidneys etc., but not all people have every kind! For example: some people only have one kidney instead of two because they lost their second one at birth but then later got it back again when they were old enough to survive without needing a transplant operation anymore…

MUSCULAR ORGAN SYSTEM (MOS)

The MUSCULAR ORGAN SYSTEM (MOS) is the largest organ system in the body. It includes muscles and bones, along with joints that allow us to move around freely. The MOS is responsible for posture, balance and support of our body’s weight; it also coordinates many other functions including breathing and digestion.

The following graphic illustrates how each part of your MOS works together to keep you upright:

PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (PNS)

The peripheral nervous system (PNS) is made up of motor neurons, sensory neurons and autonomic neurons.

Motor neuron: These are responsible for controlling skeletal muscles and regulating voluntary movements. They send information to the spinal cord via the grey matter, which then transmits it to the brain. The conduction velocity between these two components is slow compared to other types of nerves because they must travel through long distances before reaching their destination; however they do have an important role in many functions including sensation and reflexes

SENSORY SYSTEMS (SENSORS)

Sensory systems are the organs of the body that receive information from the outside world. They include our eyes, ears and nose; they also include all of our senses—touch, taste and smell.

There are three main types of sensory receptors in each sensory system:

• Merkel’s discs (a type of nerve endings) in skin tissue convert physical stimuli into electrical signals that travel via nerves to the brain for interpretation.
• Nerve endings respond to changes in pressure or temperature by sending signals through nerves to neurons located at synapses throughout your body.* Muscles contract when stimulated by an injury or other stimulus from within them – ie: touching something hot!

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM (CNS)

The CNS is the control center for all voluntary movements. It controls all voluntary movements, such as moving your arm or leg. The CNS includes the brain and spinal cord.

The brain contains nerve cells that send messages to other parts of your body through what are called nerves; these messages travel along the nervous system via electrical impulses in order to control muscle movement or sensory perception (such as sight).

The cerebrum is located at the top portion of your head; it’s made up of two lobes—left hemisphere (which controls speech) and right hemisphere (which controls thinking). The cerebellum sits behind these two lobes at a lower level inside each hemisphere; this part processes information about balance, posture, walking and other things that involve coordination between multiple systems throughout different parts of your body.[4]

Kinesiology is the science of human movement and body mechanics.

Kinesiology is the science of human movement and body mechanics. It’s also known as kinesiology, or human physical conditioning, or “movement science.”

Kinesiology is the study of how the body moves, including its muscles and nerves. The term comes from Greek roots meaning “to “move” or “to” turn,” which refers to how humans use their bodies in any given situation (e.g., walking). Kinesiologists study how people move around us on a daily basis—from sitting at desks all day long to running laps during gym class—and try to understand why we do what we do when faced with certain challenges in life!

Conclusion

We’ve covered a lot of ground in this article, so let’s recap what we learned. First, kinesiology is the science of human movement and body mechanics. Second, it is a field that has been around for thousands of years; in fact, you can trace its origins back to ancient Greece. Thirdly—and perhaps most importantly—kinesiology principles apply both on an individual level (for example: how good posture affects our health) as well as at larger scales (e.g., how cities are designed). Finally (and maybe most importantly), kinesiologists use these principles everyday in professional settings like sports training camps or rehabilitation clinics!
