Deviance is behavior that violates social norms. It is often seen as a negative thing that the group must be protected from.
Some examples of deviant behavior include:
It is important to understand what deviance is by taking a sociological approach. Deviance is a violation of social norms or expectations, and can be either criminal or non-criminal. Criminal deviance refers to the breaking of law, whereas non-criminal deviance refers to the breaking of social norms and expectations (such as when someone gets an A+ on their test instead of an A).
Deviation from these accepted behaviors may be positive or negative depending on how it impacts society at large. For example, if one person steals money from another person’s wallet while they’re sleeping, this act would likely be considered more harmful than beneficial because it causes harm to another human being who has done nothing wrong themselves—and thus those actions would fall under the category of “negative” rather than “positive.”
It is important to understand how society views people who have deviated in their actions because this helps us understand how we should treat them.
Society has many different views on deviance, and these vary depending on the country or region that you are in. For example, some societies view crime as a problem while others view it as something positive that needs to be corrected and fixed; however, there are also some countries where they do not think of anything wrong with criminal behavior at all. This can cause confusion for those who live in such areas because they may not know what type of attitude towards criminal activity one needs if he/she wants people around him/her not only respect him/her but also follow his lead without question!
Crime theories can be used for understanding deviance. They are based on the idea that crime is a social problem and can be understood through the lens of sociology.
The first two types of crime theory were developed by Cesare Lombroso, who argued that criminals were different from non-criminals because they had a physical abnormality (such as being born with an overdeveloped cranial area). This led him to believe that criminality was hereditary; he also believed that criminals were often poor or had low IQs (the so-called “born criminal”). The third type of theory was developed by Cesare Beccaria in 1764 which argued against these theories saying “crime may arise from ignorance rather than vice”, which means it’s not inherited but caused by poverty or bad parenting instead!
