In this article, we will discuss the seven major theories of corrections and provide examples of each.

The behavioral theory of corrections.

The behavioral theory of corrections is the oldest of all the theories and it focuses on punishment, reward, and deterrence. It’s also considered to be an alternative to the cognitive-behavioral model because it sees behavior as more than just a product of thinking and feeling.

The main premise behind this theory is that humans are motivated by one thing: incentives; they will do things in order to get what they want (i.e., food, money). If you’re hungry or cold then you might eat something warm or drink hot coffee instead of ice water because your body needs warmth for survival purposes (this is known as “habituation”). This means that if people don’t get enough calories in their diet then they’ll stop seeking out food sources altogether—they’ll gain weight instead! Reintegrative shaming and accountability, or RSA.

In RSA, you are held accountable for your actions and then reintegrated back into society. It is based on the idea that shaming can be a useful tool to deter crime.
