Introduction

The digital helix is a model for understanding how technology is changing the way we work, learn, and play. In this article, we’ll look at each key element of the digital helix and explain what it means to you.

1. Digital Helix

The digital helix is a metaphor for the evolution of technology. Technology moves forward through five stages:

  • The First Stage describes how we’ve come from simple tools to complex computers and mobile devices.
  • The Second Stage describes how we can use these new technologies to access and share information with each other, but not with anyone else. For example, we might be able to send messages on Facebook but not call someone who lives in another country or speak at a conference without using Skype or FaceTime (two apps that are part of this stage).
  • In the Third Stage, we can communicate over apps like Snapchat and Instagram that allow us to share images or videos with our friends without having them physically present in person at all times either because they’re busy doing something else or just aren’t interested anymore since there isn’t much chance for interaction between people anymore anyway since everyone’s always connected 24/7 through their phones!

2. The Cloud

The cloud is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources (e.g., networks, servers and storage). This cloud model may include at least one of the following characteristics:

  • On-demand self-service: Users can request computer processing power without having to request it from an administrator. They can also scale up or down their usage based on demand without affecting other users’ access to the system.
  • Broad network access: Users can connect from anywhere there is Internet connectivity; they do not need to be physically located in close proximity with each other or any server within your organization’s data center facility like traditional local area networks (LANs) do so they don’t have any restrictions in terms of where you can use it because now we have this new technology called “cloud computing” which basically allows us all over globe access

3. Mobile Devices

On your mobile device, you can use it for work and entertainment. For example, if you’re at work and want some entertainment but don’t want to leave your desk, then you can use your mobile device. You can also use it for communication – perhaps when talking with someone on the phone or through text messaging. It’s important to note that many people use their smartphones as both a tool for work (e-mailing) and play (playing games).

4. The Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is the network of physical devices, vehicles, home appliances, and other items embedded with electronics, software, sensors, actuators and connectivity. This enables these objects to connect and exchange data. The IoT has several components:

  • Sensor: A sensor can be a device that measures some aspect of its environment or sends an alert if it detects something unusual in the environment. Sensors may include temperature sensors for monitoring the inside temperature of your house; motion detectors that detect someone walking into your home; or light meters that measure how much light falls on an object from different directions at different times during the day so you know when you need to change bulbs in lamps around your house as they burn out due to age/use over time

5. Web 2.0

Web 2.0 is a term used to describe the second generation of the World Wide Web. It was coined by Tim O’Reilly in 1999, and it’s characterized by a change in the way content is created, distributed and consumed.

The first generation of the World Wide Web was built on top of HTTP and HTML but didn’t have any kind of social networking functionality or updates based on user interaction with other people’s profiles (e.g., updates about what they’re doing). For example: if you wanted to share something with your friends, you’d have to email them individually or send them an SMS message asking them if they wanted copies of your document; now imagine having over 500 friends!

6. Social Media

Social media is a way of interacting with other people. It’s also a way of communicating, sharing information and gaining knowledge. It’s about learning too! Social media can help us learn from each other by sharing our experiences or getting advice from others.

The digital helix will make it possible for everyone to share their ideas on a global scale using social media sites like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram etc., which means that everyone has access to an audience regardless of where they live in the world (or even if they don’t have access at all).

7. The Consumerization of IT

The consumerization of IT (CIT) is the phenomenon of consumers bringing their own devices to work and using them for work purposes. This is a trend that has been growing since the early 2000s, when employees began using iPhones and other mobile devices at home, then bringing them into the office to use during working hours.

This shift away from buying individual computers or tablets has made it easier for companies to offer flexible technology solutions while also allowing employees flexibility over how they use their time within an organization’s internal environment.

You should explain in your own words what each key element in the digital helix means to you

In your own words, explain what each key element in the digital helix means to you.

  • Digital Helix: A spiral shape that describes how technology evolves over time. The first element is when we had to use pen and paper for every task, then came typewriters, which were replaced by computers and laptops (the second element). With smartphones being used more often than ever before, we get yet another new form of our favorite device: tablets! But wait! There are even more devices coming soon…
  • The Cloud: It’s where all our data exists–and it keeps getting bigger every day! So if somebody steals your phone or computer but doesn’t know how to edit their own photos on Instagram then that’s probably because they don’t have an account with Instagram yet either because they’re still learning how things work together within this “Cloud.”

3 Mobile Devices: These little things make life easier by telling us what time it is right now as well as reminding us about deadlines so we don’t forget them again later down line too late again 🙂

Conclusion

The mobility of the digital helix will have enormous implications for business, but it’s also important to remember that these changes are not going to happen overnight. As you can see from our list above, they won’t be an instant revolution—the process will take some time and there will be ups and downs along the way. But once we get used to them, we may find ourselves with a world where information travels at light speed between people without any need for infrastructure!
