Scenario: Green Pastures is a 400-acre farm on the outskirts of the Kentucky Bluegrass, specializing in the boarding of broodmares and their foals. A recent economic downturn in the thoroughbred industry has led to a decline in breeding activities, and it has made the boarding business extremely competitive. To meet the competition, Green Pastures planned in 2017 to entertain clients, advertise more extensively, and absorb expenses formerly paid by clients such as veterinary and blacksmith fees.
The budget report for 2017 is presented as an attachment. As shown, the static income statement budget for the year is based on an expected 21,900 boarding days at $25 per mare. The variable expenses per mare per day were budgeted: feed $5, veterinary fees $3, blacksmith fees $0.25, and supplies $0.55. All other budgeted expenses were either semifixed or fixed.
During the year, management decided not to replace a worker who quit in March, but it did issue a new advertising brochure and did more entertaining of clients.
Develop a minimum 700-word examination of the financial statements and include the following:
Based on the static budget report:
What was the primary cause(s) of the loss in net income?
Did management do a good, average, or poor job of controlling expenses?
Were management’s decisions to stay competitive sound?
Prepare a flexible budget report for the year.
Based on the flexible budget report:
What was the primary cause(s) of the loss in net income?
Did management do a good, average, or poor job of controlling expenses?
Were management’s decisions to stay competitive sound?

You must proofread your paper. But do not strictly rely on your computer’s spell-checker and grammar-checker; failure to do so indicates a lack of effort on your part and you can expect your grade to suffer accordingly. Papers with numerous misspelled words and grammatical mistakes will be penalized. Read over your paper – in silence and then aloud – before handing it in and make corrections as necessary. Often it is advantageous to have a friend proofread your paper for obvious errors. Handwritten corrections are preferable to uncorrected mistakes.
Use a standard 10 to 12 point (10 to 12 characters per inch) typeface. Smaller or compressed type and papers with small margins or single-spacing are hard to read. It is better to let your essay run over the recommended number of pages than to try to compress it into fewer pages.
Likewise, large type, large margins, large indentations, triple-spacing, increased leading (space between lines), increased kerning (space between letters), and any other such attempts at “padding” to increase the length of a paper are unacceptable, wasteful of trees, and will not fool your professor.
The paper must be neatly formatted, double-spaced with a one-inch margin on the top, bottom, and sides of each page. When submitting hard copy, be sure to use white paper and print out using dark ink. If it is hard to read your essay, it will also be hard to follow your argument.
Variance is the measure of how much something varies from its expected value. The standard deviation (SD) is often used to measure this variation. Variance can be used to determine whether or not something has exceeded expectations or has fallen short of them.
The first variance is the difference between a mean and a variable. It’s called the first variance because it’s the largest source of variation in our regression model.
In other words, it’s what happens when we take our raw data and calculate how much each observation deviates from its corresponding sample mean. The results show that there are differences between what you predicted based on your measurements (the mean) and how much those observations actually differed from their respective means (the other variables).
A variable is any value that may change over the course of a project. For example, if you are building a house and it takes 3 weeks to build, you can say that your variable is “time.” If the price of lumber increases by $5 per board foot, then this would be considered an increase in cost for materials and would also be a change in your variable (since you need to account for it when estimating costs).
If there were only one type of material used during construction, then this would not be necessary as long as everyone used exactly the same amount each day—but even then variances could still occur due to differences in quality or quantity between different suppliers or because someone decided not to use all their stock at once but rather save some until later on down the road.
The second variance is the difference between a variable and its expected value. This is a measure of how far off from the mean an observation is, and it’s often used in conjunction with other measures to assess whether or not there’s evidence for bias or randomness in your sample.
The formula for calculating this variance looks like this:
The third variance, which you calculate by squaring the first two variances, is called the standard deviation (SD). The SD is a measure of how much the data deviate from their expected values. It tells you how far away your data are from what they should be if they were randomly distributed and had no effect on each other’s values. For example, if a company has 70 employees and each employee has an average salary of $100 per week for 6 months, then we expect this number to be between 70 and 71 dollars per week over time because there’s some chance that one person could take off several weeks due to illness or vacation time without affecting anyone else’s paycheck; this would mean that his/her salary would go up slightly during those months—but not enough to justify calling it “unusual.”
But if someone suddenly makes twice as much money in one month than he/she did previously at his job? That could cause problems for other people who depend on him being able to pay them fairly (or prevent him from paying them at all). If he suddenly earns 200% more than what was previously expected based on averages across all employees combined? Suddenly everyone else might start expecting even bigger increases themselves!
The third variance, known as U, is also squared and gives you information about how each group’s performance compares with its own performance from time to time.
This can be a useful tool for understanding how well your team is doing compared to others in similar situations. For example, if you have two teams that are performing at the same level but one has more women than men on it, then the difference between their means will be greater than what would be expected based on chance alone. In this case we would expect both groups’ means to differ by an amount equal to 1/2 (1 + 2/3) times their standard deviations—but our data shows that theirs differs by more than 5 points; this suggests there may be an issue with gender discrimination within your organization!
The sum of these four variances gives you an estimate of how much your group and its members vary from their means over time. This is called the variance of a group, or Sg in statistics.
A positive variance means that the average score is greater than the mean, while a negative one means it is less than the mean. A zero value indicates no difference between scores and their respective means; this might happen if everyone in your organization performed exactly like they should every time (e.g., 100% accuracy).
The variance formula can be used when comparing two groups because it shows how much one group differs from another’s mean score over time:
If the sum of these four variances is less than zero, then your group’s data are consistent with expectations; if it’s greater than zero, then there will be some variation in the data even though they would seem to fit standards well.

Variance can be used to determine whether or not something has exceeded expectations or has fallen short of them. For example, if a company’s revenue is $100 million and their cost per unit is $20, then their profit margin would be 20%. If the variance between actual revenue and the expected revenue was 40% (i.e., actual revenue was $80 million versus expected), then there might be reason for concern about this business’s performance because it may not have been able to reach its target level of profitability.
Variance can also be used as an indicator of potential problems with a data set before they occur so that you can take preventative action before they cause damage within your organization
Variance is a term that refers to how much a group’s performance varies from its mean. Variance is important because it helps managers make decisions about whether or not something has exceeded expectations or fallen short of them. For example, if you have a group of students in an English class who are all performing at the same level on tests but one student consistently does better than everyone else, then there will be variance between their individual performances–even though they’re all performing similarly well overall!
