If we don’t know where we are going, we won’t know when we have arrived.” This common phrase characterizes the importance of clear goals and can be applied to our work environment. Without goals, we have no structure to move forward and accomplish objectives. Goals flow from objectives developed to support an organization’s mission and vision. If we are creating goals, we want them to be robust and achieve our objectives. We can create such goals using the SMART goal methodology. SMART is an acronym for “specific,” “measurable,” “achievable,” “relevant,” and “time-bound.” These factors create a goal that is clear and trackable. In this assignment, you will be reviewing how SMART goals are created and will draft a technology goal for your organization.
Upon successful completion of this assignment, you will be able to:
- Evaluate the internal and external environment of a health care organization.
- Apply critical thinking to develop specific, measurable goals.
- Utilize change management concepts in planning for implementation.

- Review the rubric to make sure you understand the criteria for earning your grade.
- Review the videos provided:
- Download 3.4 SMART Goal Worksheet(Word document) and create one SMART goal related specifically to the use of technology. Remember to make your goal specific to what you will accomplish, by when, and by how much.
